Did you guys enjoy DAY ONE’S decorations?? Some pretty great ideas in there right?

Well today we’re moving onto one of my favorite parts, setting the table and table decorations. I feel that the way the table is set can often dictate how the meal is perceived and enjoyed. Fun and interesting settings often encourage guest to act the same way.

Dont forget to check out the Pinterest board with all the Pins in this week’s roundup!!

BIG NEWS… well ok. Big News for me.

I’m hosting Thanksgiving this year. For the first time ever. And I kinda just found out… like within the last week. And Thanksgiving is two weeks away…

yikes.

I’m terrified and excited. There’s so much to plan, so much to buy… SO MUCH TO CLEAN.

Crap. I need to scrub my house.

In honor of this huge holiday for me I’m going to be sharing some recipes from fellow bloggers every day next week. I’m also going to finally work and hopefully finish the bench. You know… the one I talked about here. Yep, I finally picked a fabric and it’s FINALLY in. And I just need to get off my rump and make the bench.

Mostly because I’ll need it as additional seating.

Then I’ll be making table and home decor and a wreath.

I have some seriously big shoes to fill. Wish me luck!!

Any good advice out there? Or how about a recipe?
I’m usually the baker in my family so hand me a turkey and I’m not quite sure what to do with it…

❤ Justynn

I like to think of myself as a semi-patient person with people (my friends and family are probably laughing at that statement right now). I understand that people are raised in different ways and to judge some one based on this is not only wrong– but also shows a lack of compassion. That being said…

There are days I just cannot stand people. As evidence from this weekend:

WHILE AT IKEA: (arguably a bad decision on my part to go during the madhouse hours)

For Pete’s sake don’t stop in the middle of the isle at IKEA.

Pull your cart over to the side grab what you need and try not to be a nuisance.

When it says “DEBIT AND CREDIT ONLY”…

They really do mean Debit and Credit only. PLEASE READ THE SIGN. Stop holding up the line because you don’t think it applies to you. It does.

And while we are already at IKEA:

To the lady in the IKEA self-checkout lane that cannot read the sign that says “ONE LINE FOR ALL FOUR STATIONS”:

Seriously, learn to read. There’s a huge freaking sign above your head that says to form one line and wait for the next available checkout. You really didn’t notice the long line of people waiting in the middle thought they were all waiting for the right two machines and decided to start the lane for the left two? Then– when the register opened up on the left and I took it because I was next in line you find the self-righteous balls to call me out in front of the whole check out?

How’d you feel after I pointed to the sign and you retreated to the back of the line?

IN THE PARKING LOT (any parking lot):

Be mindful of your surroundings.

Don’t walk from the store in the middle of the isle to your car. Move to the side so cars can move past you.

Put your empty carts into a cart return stall.

It’s just plain laziness to not take the few extra steps to return your cart where they belong. Trust me, you could use the exercise. This is especially important when it’s freaking windy out (like it was this past weekend in Detroit). It’s simple mathematics people.

Cart left randomly in lot + Really windy day = Carts damaging cars and causing problems.

Common sense people.

Be patient.

Don’t be that guy. You know the one I’m talking about. The one EVERYONE HATES. The spot stealer. The guy that trolls the parking lot looking for the next available spot and takes it regardless of who is waiting for it. I want to drop kick that guy. EVERY. TIME.

bad-parking

Also, don’t zoom around like you’re driving for NASCAR either. There are small children around and yes– while their parents should have a handle on them at all times, be mindful that you could hit one. (Almost saw this tragic event happen on Saturday. Guy was zooming around in a mustang because he was compensating and almost hit a little girl that was waiting for her mother to get the baby out of the car. Wanted to hit him with my car.)

AT THE GROCERY STORE:

When deciding you don’t want an item after-all.

I’m not exactly an angel when it comes to this, I’ve often left Items randomly where they shouldn’t be (at IKEA) but leaving an item that needs to be refrigerated or frozen in the canned goods section is just an asshole move. Someone left their expensive ice cream in the section of apples and you could tell it was already spoiled. THAT’S ICE CREAM ABUSE. And overall just not sanitary.

When using the self checkout while buying alcohol (or really any checkout)

Have your ID ready. You know they are going to ask you if you look anything under 50. You might as well be prepared. Mines always out before I even scan the 12 bottles of tequila I’m purchasing.

While we are on that note…

Dear checkout dude at Kroger…

No, I don’t find it funny, endearing or even slightly amusing when I hand you my ID and you tell me “That looks nothing like you”.

I’m trying to get in and out of the store as quickly as possible and your lame attempts at picking me up by saying “You’re way more attractive than this photo shows, are you sure this is you? How do you say your name? It’s really unique.” ….At this point I was ready to walk out of there without the booze or ID…

::facepalm::

I don’t know, maybe I’m not as patient as I thought. Do you think these are justified statements? What really gets you going? I want to know. Let just have a whole #rant session.

Right on Target

November 5, 2013

So yesterday I mentioned hitting up Target (tarrrrrjayyyyy– cuz it sounds classy that way) over the weekend in my panicked state of trying to find a Halloween costume. And I’m not sure if i mentioned it, in fact I’m to lazy to go back and look– real life here people– but I’m super impressed with them as of the last several months, not only for the home decor stuff which we all love and adore (love me some J-Adler) but also in the clothing department.

Dude, I remember back when I was younger and I was HORRIFIED shopping at Target for school clothes. I know that makes me sound all ‘privileged’ and whatever, but where I grew up was a fairly well-off area, and while not every family was ranking in the millions (mine wasn’t) going to school and dressing up for it was super pressured for a young girl. If you weren’t wearing Abercrombie or Hollister or whatever brand name was big back then, then kids kinda– automatically put you in a “group” in school and it was hard to get out of that. It was rough, kids at my high school got brand new mustangs and convertibles for their first car, and always wore the latest and greatest. (My high school bordered on the Super Rich and moderately rich zones of my town, I was from neither and just was thrown into that group.)

I’m not going to say that we were super un-wealthy and poor– but I grew up in a single parent household and my mom worked her ass off. Yes, I’m super close to my dad, and saw him practically every week, but for a single mother raising a kid on your own and being the only income– she definitely cut corners for herself so I could pick out the cool clothes. (PS mom I love you).

Anyways— off of that tangent… Back in the day Target was an “eh” kind of a store. Now a days I can rarely go in there without spending $100 on ALL THE THINGS.

Seriously, it’s like a disease, if you can go into there without spending $100, please feel free to do all my shopping for me for the rest of my life, at target.

Really though, their women’s clothing line has seriously taken off so kudos to them. Below are 8 of my favorite items (three of which I bought) in woman’s fashion right now. And let me tell you, it was really hard to limit myself to just 8.

TARGET-01

1. Leopard Print Flats // 2. Geometric Infinity Scarf // 3. Leopard Print Top // 4. White Tunic // 5. Mittens // 6. Black Wristlet // 7. Black Studded Pumps // 8. Red Lacey Dress

One– Totally bought these super cute flats. They were cheap, they could go with practically any top and skinny jeans and you can never have too many flats.

Two– Love the pattern on this scarf. Like flats you can never have too many cute scarfs (I have probably close to 20) and being black and white– again, goes with everything and anything.

Three– This top I loved at first sight. Leopard print it totally making a comeback right now and in a way that is sexy but NOT sleazy, and this top paired with a basic black or white tank and skinny jeans or skinny black pants could be a great date night outfit.

Four– I bought this white tunic too for a baby shower this Sunday. I’m thinking of pairing it with skinny jeans my new and either boots or the leopard print flats (depending on the weather).

Five– Mittens. Living in the “Mitten State” (ask any michigander to tell you where they live, I dare you) you can never have too many pairs of gloves, mittens hats… scarfs… 😉 especially when you are live me and lose the ying to every yang in EVERY pair and can never find a matching set. I swear my car eats them.

Six– I’m not a big carry around a huge purse type of girl (especially when going out) so I generally have a wristlet “wallet” that I stuff inside bigger purses when needed, but it carries around all the essentials (credit card, debit card, cash, lip gloss, ID… etc) I’m in the need of a new one and I wanted black. I generally splurge and buy myself a Coach one (they last forever and its like the ONE nice thing i own) but this one caught my eye and i figure I’d grab it. I’ll probably still get a coach one, or ask for it for Christmas, but this one will work for now and its kinda “edgy” with the metal details.

Seven– Speaking of “edgy”, I absolutely LOVE these pumps. I’m not a big heel person I can generally stand in them, but actually walking around requires brainpower that I seem incapable of using after the second or third margarita, which will mean that they heels come off and my toes are out for show (ALWAYS KEEP THEM PAINTED). However, I have been known to buy a few pairs and wear them religiously when needed and I love the studs on these so these will probably end up in my closet in the next month as well.

Eight– I’m mostly a jeans and t- type of a girl, but I’m starting to go out more so I’m going to need some sexy new dresses to pay for the drinks at the bar. Dont get it? Ask a woman. Clothes = Beverages. It’s scientifically proven.

There were SO many more items that I loved, but I’ll have to save those for another time. Next time let’s go back to decor stuff. J-A is calling my nammmmme.

Have you picked up anything from Tarjeeeeeey lately that you are loving? Tell me please!!

A Whole New Following

November 4, 2013

Lets just start today off with some man-candy…

Yep. That my folks is Brad Ausmus the man named the new Manager for the Detroit Tigers and possibly the newest reason for females in Detroit to flock to Comerica Park.

Saturday (sometime during my incredible hangover) the Detroit Tigers announced the addition of this lovely chunk of man to be the 37th Manager for the Detroit Tigers and ladies everywhere (or at least the ones I know) posted to Facebook, twitter and social media everywhere their approval.

2013-11-04_1827 2013-11-04_18262013-11-04_1816a2013-11-04_1813a2013-11-04_1821

He’s even stealing wives…

2013-11-04_1823

Some fans are thinking since we have a new heart-throb we can boot the old one…

2013-11-04_1822

Some are still Die-Hard Leyland fans…

2013-11-04_18192013-11-04_1818

Others not so much…

2013-11-04_1821a

Some of the men are having issues relating to the buzz he’s causing…

2013-11-04_1817

Others are experiencing some new feelings…

2013-11-04_1816

Overall though it’s becoming clear that the Tigers can look forward to experiencing a whole new female fan base…

2013-11-04_1813 A 2013-11-04_1808A 2013-11-04_1808

BTW… Dear Detroit: I suggest you break out the Mrs. Ausmus Jerseys and T-Shirts stat. (I’ll take three…)

I’m excited. (not that kind of excited— jeez) I loved Leyland and was a bg supporter of his, but it’s time to switch things up. We’ve had the best team going in for a while now and missing / not winning the World Series in the last three years has been heartbreaking.

It drives me to drink people (see exhibit A below)

EXHIBIT A

2013-11-04_1839

(OK, that’s a lie, this was after they won — and the parking lot attendant was cheering me on. Staying classy– all. the. time.)

Annnyways. So after my confession last week I’ve decided to start all over. Today is a new day, I had a pretty badass weekend and we’re taking baby steps forward.

Friday night was fairly uneventful. I set myself into a panic trying to make a Halloween costume (last minute, of course) for a party on saturday. It was my third attempt at a costume. I really wanted to make a gumball machine like Rachel’s from Life Unsweetened.

2013-11-04_1841

In fact I even posted a teaser photo of it on Instagram. Yeah, that failed. Why?  I bought too big of pom poms so when I glued them to a tank the overall combined weight of them and the glue stretched out the tank in a weird wonky way and it looked horrible.

So after it being the 3rd failed attempt at a costume (Not even going to start with the other two…) I went into a panic and made my way to Target Saturday morning (morning of the party) in search of another costume idea. Luckily I found a cool plaid shirt and some make up and was able to pull off a scarecrow costume pretty easily. I think it worked out pretty well. Bless you Pinterest for all the face-makeup ideas.

2013-11-04_1846

Overall Saturday was a fairly sucessful night and Sunday my little buddy was dropped off to spend a few days with me.

In fact I took him to work this morning. He slept. Life of a dog.

How was your weekend? Any new hot managers for you to drool over? Do you think Ausmus is hot? For a man in his mid-40s… I’d hit it.
