Archives For August 2013

Hi everyone! Welcome to Tuesday, the least exciting day of the week. The day that I promised my reveal & tutorial for my wood mat for my front porch. Which, Spoiler Alert: it’s not done yet. Why? Well, friends came into town, Mom’s birthday happened, and on top of all that I failed miserably at this project. Why? Well, smart Justynn took a last-minute summer vacation it looks like. Oh well, I’m going to try to fix it tonight, we’ll see how that turns out.  Basically, I wanted to color block stain, which doesn’t seem like a bad idea, right? Wrong.

Raise your hand if you know why…  (I’ll keep mine down, since I know, but for whatever reason– it didn’t occur to me until after I had attempted it.)

Here’s a helpful little sketch I just made to explain… Hey, at least it’s not stick figures…

photo 5

And this is where the project currently stands.

photo 2

Yeah, lovely. I know. You should have seen my hands after my fit of *This sucks I’m just going to rip off all the painters tape and throw the whole damn thing away*. But I didn’t, and yes, I’ll be fixing it tonight. I’m going to try the stain thing one more time. If that doesn’t work out we’re going to move on to paint.

In other news, my weekend was a blast. It started off Friday with a walk after work with my two favorite boys.

photo 1

They really are too cute for their own good. This picture was completely staged but I don’t give a crap. It’s still cute. Saturday I ended up hanging out with some ladies all day, we ended up in Eastern Market where I bought the largest zucchini ever for a buck fifty. Right? The thing is the size of a large infant. Then last night my mother dropped off four more HUGE Zucchini. So I will be spending my free time today looking up recipes to make with them… since you know, I have FIVE.

photo 4

I bought a really cool print while in Detroit for the Eastern market as well. Can wait to get that baby in a frame and share it!  Oh! and lastly I attempted the “button gift wrap” thing from Friday’s post for my mom’s gift. Super simple and it looked really good. So that one has my stamp of approval!

Starting my already LONG list of this to get done over the long weekend coming up:

— Get Etsy shop up and running
— Start week 4 SYTYC Project
— Complete Week 3 Project
— Clean my room and finally get all my laundry put away
— Finish some ENMNetwork Reviews and Posts for next week.
— Hit up Eastern Market on Saturday Morning

Here’s to hoping that make 2 of those items actually get finished!

**Oh, and a PSA since people have been asking… SYTYC will start NEXT MONDAY the 2nd, Some stuff got moved around and everything was pushed back a week.**

Tah tah for now,

It’s FRIDAY. Whew… I almost thought this week would never end. Never ending car issues, and dealing with the dealership (who was telling me nothing was wrong with my vehicle; spoiler alert– they were wrong) has officially made this the week from HELL. Basically my year and a half old car was having transmission shifting problems, gas regulating problems and a tire sensor had gone bad. And the lovely dealership decided to tell me nothing was wrong with it. Gee thanks. Never going there again.

I will say in the end they’ve fixed 2 out of the three issues. The gas sensor issue still seems to be wonky, but I’ve done a ton of research into it and it seems that a LOT of people have that same issue. And short of them replacing the whole fueling system (which I might make them do) nothing seems to fix the issue.

Anyways, because of all that I’ve needed to escape for a few hours each day and one of my all time favorite places to escape to is PINTEREST. Seriously people, if you’re not on that bandwagon yet, go look at a calendar, realize what year it is and jump on it. Pinterest is the best thing since sliced bread for crafters/ bakers/ cooks/ moms/ bloggers… pretty much everyone (well except a bunch of men whose wives ask them to DO the things they see on Pinterest, sorry guys– I bow my hat to you, because I’m breaking out my tools for Pinterest too.)

Another great thing about Pinterest? Sherry & Katie’s Pinterest Challenge. I’m impatiently awaiting the next one. It should be here ANY DAY (Hello, Summer’s almost over!) I love their Pinterest Challenge so much that I’m going to start my own monthly Pinterest Challege. Anyone interested in joining? I’m thinking I’ll find one thing on there each month (maybe there will be themes?) and then put my own spin on it. We could have a link up too… ohhh the possibilities.

Anyways, back to my escaping. The following five items are some of my favorites from today’s Pinterest feed! Click on the image to go to the board with the pins 🙂 While your at it why don’t you follow each other on Pinterest? Follow me! If you want a follow back leave your link in the comments!

ONE, I think this is genius and I want to try it on my next apple pie… LOVE me some geometric shapes! TWO — saw this earlier this week on Brit + Co. and couldn’t get over how cool they were. I definitely want to try to make these. Maybe they would make a cute wedding favor or baby shower/ bridal shower favor? THREE — I’m absolutely obsessed with zucchini and love to find new ways to cook it. FOUR — Genius way to add some cheap flare to your gifts. Going to attempt this on my mom’s birthday gift (it’s on monday!). FIVE — Love this mirror idea. The BF (who from here on out will be referred to as “Boy”) has a favorite camping place and it’s my goal this summer to collect as much driftwood as my body can hike back with for our own special little project. I might make him carry some as well.

Alrighty, I’m out for the weekend. Check back monday for little recap and tuesday for my DIY wood Rug finished product (I should probably get started on that eh?)

Wooden Welcome

August 22, 2013

Annnnd it’s thursday. You know, four days AFTER I last posted. I’m really good at that guys. This whole sticking to a timeline thing… NOT. It may seem that I’ve been very lazy this week and that’s only partially correct. Having the last two weekends away from home has left me with ZERO TIME to get any projects or post done for the week. Plus works been a madhouse. Oh and add-on top of that my cars been in the shop since Monday-ish so the addition of lack of transportation hasn’t helped. But that’s all past! Because I finally have a rental car, I can finally go to Home Depot and I’m FINALLY home for the whole weekend. Yep.

First, a small announcement: SYTYC competition has been pushed back a week, there was some miscommunication with contracts and paperwork being signed so Week 1 crafts will be features Sept 2nd, not August 26th like originally planned. Which is fine with me, I’ve been keeping lots of secrets from you guys… I have the first 3 projects done already. So this little setback neither helps nor hinders me. Oh well. Next week I will be featuring my tutorial for my memo board HERE. It’s already been featured over on SYTYC, but along with it will be MORE back to school goodies for your little DIY hearts.

OK I lied, there’s definitely a second announcement. BLOGPAL, holy cow guys! The response has been AWESOME. I’m so excited to start up BlogPal for September and am looking forward to it being a semi-monthly thing. Please please please take a minute to read about it here and sign up. It will be a super fun experience, I promise. If you have any questions you can always email me at as well.

A WHOLE WEEKEND TO DO PROJECTS: I’m flippin’ excited. What kind of things do I have in store? Week 4 theme for SYTYC project… this one has been the HARDEST to conceptualize yet. Also I’m going to make myself a new doormat. Mines looking a little… *used*.

I’ve really fallen in love with the wood ones that are plastered all over Pinterest and want to make a combo of a few of them. Here is a mood board to kinda show my thoughts…

Rug Mood Board-01

Links one and two were both broken 😦 // THREE // FOUR  // FIVE // SIX

I really love the idea of using several different colors or shades of stain. you can see in images one and six that I picked out one with random patterns of color and I think I want to replicate that idea in my mat. I also really love the straight wood slats design, so mine will most likely be of that design. As far a the mat I have there currently, its made out of the same material as the rug in pic three. I bet I could just spray paint it and use it in the garage. THe only thing I don’t love about that type of mat is the amount of JUNK they leave behind. But maybe spray painting it will make it hed less? Who knows… worth a try though!

So that is that for today! I will be back tomorrow with some favorites and an update on monday of how my rug turned out and what my next project is. I’m going to create my very own self internal Pinterest challenge and challenge myself every month to making something from Pinterest. Maybe It’ll be my next big series? I really love the inspired design stuff that I’ve seen floating around too. So that might have to be a theme…

Until tomorrow, Lazypants OUT.

(ps, say goodbye to this signature, it’s getting an upgrade!)

Introducing: BlogPal

August 18, 2013

**** EDIT **** just noticed in the graphic it says by “August 23rd to send a gift” it should read “September 23rd”. Wow… talk about getting ahead of yourself….

I’m so thrilled to introduce to you today a collective bloggers swap of my VERY OWN. If you’ve been following along for a little while you know that I took part in the Craft-a-holics Summer Gift Exchange, then also was a part of the Nectar Collective Snail-Mail Collective, then the Favorite Summer Swap from Life is Sweet and CURRENTLY I’m paired up for the August Package Pals… Clearly I love the blog swap/ meeting new bloggers/ exchange stuff. Clearly.

So, when Clarissa from The Waste Knot randomly emailed me and wanted to exchange gifts (to which I mis-read and thought she wanted to start her own swap) I was THRILLED to hear from her. Long story short, I mis-interpreted her email, and somehow talked her into creating our very own swap called BlogPal.

So what is BlogPal? I’m glad you asked….

BlogPal is a blog friend making, post topic inducing and gifty giving swap (all my favorite things from my prior swaps) all wrapped into one. During blog pal you are matched up with another blogger, given some topic ideas that you collaborate about and at the end you throw mail a little thank you gift their way.

It looks a little something like this:

BlogPal HowTo-01

Kinda cool right? Think you might want to get involved? AWESOME. To make the matching easier for Clarissa and I we created this handy dandy google doc for you to fill out your information. Then on September 1st you’ll receive an email from us with your BlogPal’s information. Of course with every swap there are some rules to keep things moving smoothly.

the rules-01

— You must email your assigned BlogPal within 72 hours of being assigned. If you don’t hear from your BlogPal in this amount of time please let us know as soon as possible so you can be re-assinged.
(ex: assigned Sunday Sept 1, need to drop in a hello by Wednesday Sept 4th)

— Week 2 & Week 3 we will be posting & emailing you topic ideas for your collaborative post with your BlogPal. It’s up to you to decide how to interpret the topics. Maybe you each just post a photo of your representation, or make a craft or meal about the “theme”. Get creative! Swap blogs for the day even– everyone loves a guest post!

— Gifts under $30 (we’re not about breaking the bank!) must be mailed by September 23rd.

— Week 4 Throw up a post about your BlogPal and/or gift and link that post to our link up (featured on Creative Life Antics & The Waste Knot)

Middle Dash Line-01

Simple rules right? Great. Fill out the handy dandy form here by Wednesday August 28th. If you want to button up that’s also highly encouraged! The button is below. I’m really excited to see how this goes and can’t wait to hear from all of you about your experience. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email Clarissa and I at

Have a very happy week!

Hi guys, it’s Thursday… And I have a WEDNESDAY wish list for you… finally. I apologize for the delay, this week just seems to be one that I can’t get together. I know it looks like I’m not doing anything but I PROMISE YOU I’m doing a lot of work behind the scenes. I have a VERY SPECIAL announcement to make this Sunday and I’ve been working my little tail off to get it ready. Not to mention SYTYC pieces, new campaigns for ENMNetwork (I’ve been given my first TWO!) and specifically blog projects. On top of all that this little blog of mine is in the process of an overhaul. The first part was the site layout and design, next is making sure all those header links actually lead you to the things you were looking for and followed up by moving entirely off work press hosted to my own hosting solution. Thus giving you the opportunity to sponsor ads. It sure is busy around here…

Ok, enough of that talk… lets get down to business. You should have by now received your LOVELY new IKEA catalogue and I’m sharing favorites from the *newly update* Stockholm series. Like that green couch. OMG that green couch. Want.

08-15-13 WW-01ONE // TWO // THREE // FOUR // FIVE

Did I pick any of your favorites? What was your favorite item in the new catalogue? I love having an IKEA store literally 15 minutes from my house. Even if going into the store gives me anxiety (all those people…).

Tomorrow I will be posting my Friday favorites like normal, but SUNDAY is when you should check back on my BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.

523886_10201854326062999_330136647_n**UPDATE** I just found out that this super hunky man is trying to raise $$ to stop human trafficking. Can you jump over to his fundraiser page and pay him a visit? Thanks! ❤ J.

Actor Josh Henderson (From Dallas) is trying to raise $5000 for charity and he is only 70% of the way. The funds will benefit the Somaly Mam Foundation.

The Somaly Mam Foundation is a nonprofit 501c(3) organization dedicated to the eradication of slavery worldwide, with a special focus on Southeast Asia where the trafficking of women and girls is widespread. SMF supports survivor rescue, shelter, and restoration programs (including medical and psychological treatment), as well as empowerment programs that train survivors of slavery to be a force of change in their community. SMF’s awareness and advocacy campaigns shed light on the crime of human trafficking and involve governments and individuals in the fight against modern-day slavery.

He is raising $5000 by Saturday, August 17, 2013 as part of a campaign to raise awareness for human trafficking.

Friday, finally. I’m thanking my lucky stars that at the end of today’s workday I’ll be headed up to sit my butt on a beach all weekend. So, last night I was super anxious to find out what the results were for SYTYC. We had been told that the voting ended 5pm MST and we would know that night. I’m happy to announce that Creative Life Antics made it past the auditions round and will be participating in Season 17 of So You Think You’re Crafty. If you haven’t guess it by now, my audition piece was #6 the Huge Memo Board with the Michigan State “S” on it. My sister Jordan will be taking it up to college with her in a few weeks and I’m excited to see it up there at her new place. I was really overwhelmed with all the support from everyone voting. Many of you knew looking right at it which project was mine and sent me a message about it. Several even asked for me to make them one!

Season 17 starts the week of the 26th, so expect updates then! ** Take note that all SYTYC Posts will be posted after 10am EST** Next week a tutorial of my Huge Memo Board will be up on SYTYC!

This was a really busy week for me… so my time that I spent actually LOOKING at other blogs was very minimum. However, I was able to find a few favorites to throw your way.

ONE // Love this dog bowl holder from Yellow Brick Home
TWO // Loving the black walls in this inspiration post from 6th Street Design School
THREE // This mug from Etsy store ChantillyStay is SO GREAT
FOUR // Loveeeee this pipe desk from Cafe Cartolina. I MUST MAKE ONE
FIVE // Mandi from Vintage Revivals is seriously my idol. Love this Concrete planter idea!

Alright, that’s it for today. I’m out. See you all on Monday!

The Liebster Award

August 8, 2013

Welcome to Thursday everyone! One day away from Friday, one day away from the weekend. Are you excited? That answer should be a Hell to the YES…

Last week (err… okay really more of last weekend) Lizzy (from Lizzy’s Luggage) sent me an email letting me know that she had been chosen for the Liebster Award (a recognition award passed around in blog land to smaller blogs to recognize their efforts and basically a big “hey you’re great” thing.) I’ve seen it around before and was super excited for her! She totally deserve the recognition! So when she told me she was nominating me as one of her picks I about danced… no… I actually did dance. In bed. Waking up the BF. Whoops…

The award comes with it’s sets of rules: (bear with me this will be a LONG POST)

1. You Link back to the person that nominated you (done.)
2. List 11 facts about yourself. (see below)
3. Answer 11 questions posted by the person who nominated you. (see below even farther..)
4. Nominate up to 11 other blogs with 200 followers or less. (This is the hard part…)
5. Ask 11 new questions for the nominee-blogs to respond to. (wayyyyyyy at the bottom)

11 Facts About Me (Justynn)

1. I use my name as an ice-breaker for EVERYTHING. “Hi, I’m Justynn. Yes, Justynn. As is ‘Justin’ the boys name. Yes, it’s unique. I think my father really wanted boys.” Which is kinda funny because my Mother was actually the one to come up with my name. Its from a book? I think…

My half-sister (Sister) is Jordan… so the whole “dad wanted boys” thing works for me.

2. I’m obsessed with instagram (@creativelifeantics) and taking photos on my iphone. I have to regularly dump my phone photos so I can take new ones. My bf makes fun of me for this. Over half the pictures on my phone right now are of Ziggy.

Did you guys know that H&M had a home store?! I sure didn’t. But of course when I found I hopped right over and spend over and HOUR looking through their entire catalogue. And then I got distracted by clothes. Isn’t this the cutest dress?!

Ok, ok Justynn, back on topic… Anyways, So I found out they have a home catalogue, spent over and hour perusing it and figured I might as well share my finds with you. Check out some of my favorites below.

I’m Broke & Broke…

August 6, 2013

Hellllllllo out there. Welcome, welcome. It’s Tuesday (shocker, I know). And today I’ve got some Hollywood news for you.

Before I get too far into the news just a QUICK shameful plug reminder to go vote for the So You Think You’re Crafty Season 17 Auditions. pleasssssse… I’m begging… seriously, on my knees right now (ok, that’s a lie).

Ok, now on to the fun stuff. First, before I go ANY farther… this:ENMNetwork Disclosure

SO. I’m super excited today to bring to you news of a HOT HOT HOT new single camera comedy called Newlywed & Broke. A “modern day” I Love Lucy- like comedy starring Reko Moreno and Kat Castaneda as a newlywed couple struggling with financial hardship, job loss and all the quirks of a new marriage. I watched about 2 minutes of their hilarious promo video on their indiegogo campaign site and immediately fell in love. The MC Hammer reference was ON POINT.

I can seriously relate to this comedy right now. I might not be married, but I’m a young homeowner that struggles constantly to find a balance between bills, projects and being young and wanting to “live the life”. There are definitely times where I think to myself “If I hadn’t bought my home” I could have gone to Europe, or Peru or somewhere amazing and had a once in a lifetime experience. I have to remind myself that setting money aside for that dreaded property tax bill is WAY more important than new clothes (at least that’s what I’ve been told).

This new series will be something that EVERYONE can relate to it’s a familiar tale for all of us.  Relationship or not, everyone can grow nostalgic over at least a few ridiculous choices they made when they were broke. Just watch the promo video here. I’m fully standing behind this new show and can’t wait to see what else they can come up with.

Stop by the Indiegogosite (I LOVE how they named their perks as the romance “steps”. The description for the Bachelorette party is SO TRUE, lol!), check out some of the cool broke tips provided by fans and take note that your donation is TAX DEDUCTIBLE because they are partnered with Fractured Atlas –a non-profit arts service organization.

As always I will be giving you the latest and greatest up to date information from this campaign. I think the best part of this whole thing is hearing everyones stories! What’s your broke tip? Do you only get gas during a full moon? Maybe you hit up the local bar only during happy hour? Tell me your broke tip! You never know… it just might make it on the show.

Have a wonderful day everyone, see you back here tomorrow for a Wednesday Wishlist!

Fill the Cookie Jar #1

August 1, 2013

Hi Guys! Today I’m sharing with you a new cookie recipe! Last month while perusing facebook groups I saw a call for bloggers to participate in a monthly cookie recipe link up.

Well… I love cookies, link ups are great for my blog, I want to meet more fellow bloggers, and did I mention that I love cookies? Sold! Each month there will be a theme, and on the first of the month there will be a link paty of all the blogs that you can hop around to get all the different recipes. Cool huh? I’m going to try my best to keep up with it each month.

This time the theme was “Back to School” which is a bit tough for me since I dont have kids. But I polled my friends and they agreed that Peanut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal No Bake Cookies reminded them of back to school. Check mine out, don’t they look yummy?

No Bake Image 2-01

Chocolate Peanut Butter No Bake Cookies

2     Cups Sugar
4     Tablespoons Cocoa
1     Stick Butter
1/2  Cup Milk
3/4  Cup Peanut Butter
1     Tablespoon Vanilla
3     Cups Oatmeal
Waxed Paper
Optional: Chocolate Chips/ Reese’s PB Pieces for added flavor and decoration

1. In a saucepan heat the Sugar, Cocoa, Butter and Milk. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes.

2. Remove from heat, add the Peanut Butter & Vanilla. Stir to mix throughly.

3. Add the Oats a cup at a time to the mixture, stirring in completely. Here is where you add the optional ingredients if you want.

4. Drop the mixture by spoonfuls onto the Wax Paper. Let cool and harden completely. (PRO TIP: if the air is humid, the cookies wont harden completely you’ll have to stick them in the fridge to harden.)

No bake Image 1-01

Then just eat and enjoy! Hope you like them!

Ready to visit the other blogs taking part of the #fillthecookiejar hop? Check up the link party here! There are some DELICIOUS looking recipes going on…

Until tomorrow… ❤ Blog Signature
