Etsy Shop Spotlight & 100+ Facebook Likes Giveaway!

July 22, 2013

Happy Monday Fans! A VERY happy Monday indeed… I’ll skip all the B.S. right away and tell you what you want to hear… I promised you a GIVEAWAY if I reached 100+ Facebook likes and I’m gad to say that it’s finally here. In-fact, I’m well-over 200 likes! First I just want to say THANK YOU! I’m so shocked at the love and support from complete strangers that I’ve received from blogging and can tell you that I’m in it for the long haul…

Thank you!-01

Before we get to the giveaway though I want to talk about the wonderful Etsy shop that has teamed up with me for this giveaway! Mr. City from Mr. City Printing (does my hint from Friday make sense now?) is the creator of my FAVORITE new piece of art in my home and when I reached out to him for this giveaway he was glad to join in on the fun.  Speaking of fun, I figured it would be a lot of fun to get to know the man behind the iMAC and learn more about him & Mr. City Printing.

OK Mr. City, Question and Answer Time… Ready? Set… Go!

Q: First off, what’s your name?
A: Tony, but I’ve been doing Art as Mr. City.

Q: When did you start selling on Etsy?
A: I started my shop during the summer of 2011.

Q: I’m looking to open my own Esty shop in the near future. What are some of the challenges you came across owing and operating an Etsy shop? How did you overcome them?
A: I think the most challenging thing when you are just starting up is trying to get voiced. ETSY is actually a great place to start a shop because it is fairly easy to get traffic to your site, but there is lots of competition. If you have a unique idea though, I think you can still stand out there. Things started to slowly grow more and more once my shop had a few sales and some positive feedback.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I run Mr City Printing out of a home studio in the city of St. Louis, Missouri.

Q: Tell me a little about your shop…
A: The art prints I sell are modern maps that are intricate, but at the same time minimalist. Each print has a silhouette of a city’s limits, with a detailed map of almost every road in the city overlaid on top of it. It was an idea I came up with while I also worked as a transportation engineer, designing roads for real. I needed some artwork for the bare walls of my house and the designs are what I came up with. I have a few other styles of prints in my shop as well.

Q: Which print is your favorite and why?
A: My favorite print is probably St. Louis, because it’s my hometown and I can recognize familiar streets and parks on the map. Other than that I think the Tokyo print is pretty neat because it is such a large and dense city, and it was a challenge to create with thousands of lines. It was about the limit of detail I could create without my computer just catching fire from thinking too hard.

Q: Haha, ok moving onto some easier questions. Since we are in the middle of a HOT SUMMER, what’s your favorite summertime memory?
A: Favorite memory is road tripping to California with my family, I think it was the start of my interest in travel and maps.

Q: Ok, this one is super important. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
A: Salted Carmel

Q: What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
A: I am actually not trained as an artist in any way, and went to school for engineering. I hope that’s what makes my artwork unique thought, by having a science/ math background I don’t have any preconceived ideas about what are should be.

Q: Sounds like you have your hands full! I know a busy schedule means early mornings and late nights, what gets you going in the morning?
A: Cappuccino or black coffee… or really just large amounts of ANY coffee will work!

Q: Well thanks for being a part of this BIG EVENT for me. Is there anything else you’d like to tell my readers?
A: I’m happy to enable a coupon code for your readers so they can enjoy free domestic shipping. The code will be “SHIPPINGCLA”.

Thanks again TONY!
